Cooking is an Art
What do baking a soufflé, writing a jingle, and throwing paint on a canvas all have in common?
You are making something! And that in and of itself is incredible. You might think making a pot of spaghetti or tossing a salad doesn’t have much artistry to it, and to some degree you might be right. If you’re just following a set of instructions to the letter, nothing different, then perhaps it might not be art.
What matters, though, is if you are making something that is in some way an expression of yourself. Say you decided to add something that wasn’t in the recipe. That thing you added was yours. You had the idea, you made the decision, and you made it a reality. That is the core of art. Any time you diverge from the recipe and make something your own thing, that is art.
Cuisinart had the right idea when they chose their name. Cooking is an art, so make it yours.
