Ear's The Rub, Ep. 139
[Chip tune music plays, slowly fading out as the host begins talking.]
TAP: Hey all, welcome back to another episode of Earβs The Rub, a weekly podcast about earbuds. Iβm your host Tap Winhart. I write about trends in the earbud industry for Wirenado, Gadge, and Tronique among other places. Today, I have a very special guest: head of the retail site Meh.com, itβs @Dave! Dave, thanks for joining us.
DAVE: Itβs a pleasure to be here.
TAP: As you know, Iβm an earbud user and Iβm an earbud lover, but one thing Iβve never done is sold earbuds. You, on the other hand, working in the world of ecommerce, sell many earbuds, correct?
DAVE: Yes, on Meh, weβve sold a wide variety of different earbuds and headphoβ
TAP: Whoa! Whoa! This is a family program, Dave! Donβt use the h-word here!
DAVE: What? You mean headphoβ
TAP: I just said donβt say it. If it doesnβt go in the ear, it doesnβt go in my show, understand?
DAVE: But theyβre so closely relaβ
TAP: Anyway, one thing that makes your site unique is that it offers one deal each day. That means, while someone like me has the luxury to review only the most cutting edge in the bud-verse, you have to find something to say about every pair of earbuds you sell. So, how do you keep it fresh?
DAVE: Thatβs a great question, Tap. One thing we might do is use the product description space to talk about earbuds in general. We trust our audience to know what wireless earbuds are, so maybe instead of describing exactly how they work, we might talk about something more conceptual.
TAP: Interesting. Like what?
DAVE: Well, with the pair weβre selling today, we might talk about how, given the lack of surface area on the buds themselves, thereβs no real way to make them look fashionable. The burden of aesthetics thus falls on the charging case, but who will actually ever see the charging case? Which makes you wondβ
TAP: Fascinating stuff, Dave. But letβs pause there for a quick note about todayβs sponsors.

Then theyβll design a bed and deliver it to you, vacuum-packed into a picnic basket.
TAP: Todayβs episode is also brought to you by Mediocritee. And now, back to the show.
DAVE: Donβt you want to say more about that last sponsor?
TAP: Nope.
DAVE: Itβs just a pretty cool site, you know? A new design each week! The tee as a canvas for some great, often hilarious art!
TAP: Iβll deal with the ads, Dave.
DAVE: Sorry, I justβ
TAP: Anyway, you were saying something about conceptual ideas for writing about earbuds when youβve sold so many before.
DAVE: Yeah, we could do a kind of rant about the charging case, or something even sillier.
TAP: Like what?
DAVE: I donβt know, maybe a transcript of a fake podcast.
TAP: What? Why?
DAVE: To be funny.
TAP: β¦
DAVE: β¦
TAP: β¦
DAVE: β¦
TAP: Itβs not funny.
, I like these better causes I can hear music in both ears. THANKS MORNINGSAVE.
