Keep Up With the Creep Up
In my neck of the woods, Halloween season officially starts in August. It’s been creeping earlier each year since I was a kid—when my mom would start in on a homemade Halloween costume around October 30th and all was right with the world. But now the Jones’s next door already have the cobwebs on the bushes and the blowup Frankenstein in the yard, and here I am expected to keep up. Sorry kids, not gonna happen.
But that doesn’t make me a Halloween Scrooge (boo humbug). I love to decorate and I now know to stock up early, even I don’t put them out until it’s actually October. This year I’m going with a Victorian Gothic vibe —back lace, skulls, old portraits that will haunt your dreams. These flickering candelabras are a perfect addition and will set the mood without the worry of a real flame. Get them while they’re here today though, and go get some candy, too, before it sells out to avoid any tricks when the time comes.
