Missed The Pause
Outside of the gala, the Duke is finally about to tell Lady Heather his true feelings for her. He will at last speak the words everyone’s been waiting to hear for weeks. But as soon as he opens his mouth, as soon as he begins his long-awaited soliloquy, he’s interrupted. By your mother. Calling on the phone.
And making matters worse: when you try to pause the show, nothing happens. The remote is dead and so the duke just keeps on, his words half drowned out by the sound of your phone vibrating against the coffee table. Oh, and by the way, you’re watching via a streaming box, so it’s not like you can control it from the television.
And so now you find yourself in a dramatic situation of your own: do you forsake your own mother and continue watching (when it is very likely her password that has allowed you to watch in the first place)? Or do you adhere to familial pressures and allow the show to continue on in the background, with any screen-ward glance capable of revealing things that will spoil later viewing sessions?
Which is all to say: hey, maybe keep some extra rechargeable batteries on hand!
