When we first heard the brand “EcoVacs” we figured it was a little-known knock-off outfit selling robo-vacs to grandmas. Then we saw that Wirecutter picked an EcoVac (the Deebot N79) as their top robot vacuum.
Whaaa?
When did we get so out of touch with robot vacuums that we no longer recognize a top brand? We used to be the robot vacuum people. The first product we ever sold was from iRobot, for suck’s sake. And now that brand has been relegated to mere “Also Great” status on Wirecutter.
We feel like Homer, coming to grips with the fact that we are no longer the “coolest, “hippest,” or “bossest”:
We’re probably cementing our out-of-touch status by referencing a Simpsons joke from … let’s see … this can’t be right. The World Wide Web says this episode aired 21 years ago. But The Simpsons is the most cutting-edge satire of modern American life on television. We certainly didn’t stop absorbing new cultural references over 20 years ago. That’s impossible.
Rick and who?
OK, we may not keep up with autonomous vacuumery or animated send-uppery anymore, but we keep our finger on the important pulses. C.C. Sabathia is the most dominant pitcher in baseball. Rock and roll band “The Strokes” have captivated the music world with their brash, stylistic sound. And The United States is still the cultural, diplomatic, and moral leader of the world.
Right?
